「取材で各所へ赴いた際に肌で感じた空気や温度、匂い、音など、五感で体感した経験を、いかに絵の中で表現できるかに重点を置いて制作を続けてきました。
絵画という視覚情報の媒体に、さまざまな感覚を詰め込んで完成させることが近年、大きなテーマとなっており、実在の場所で特定の時間に感じたひとつひとつの異なる経験を作品にすることは、その都度困難さを伴いますが、私は日々の制作において試行錯誤を繰りかえし解決してきたように思えます。
まだまだ未熟ですが、今後も現場で感じた豊かな体験を絵画作品に結実させていきたいです。是非、近年の集大成をご高覧下さい。」（石川総一郎）
作家は山形県の出身です。自身が小さい頃より慣れ親しんだ「海」を原風景の印象として強く持ち、その風景を描き続けています。実際の場所を取材し作品を制作していますが、自身が幼少より親しんだ日本海を描くことが多いと言います。
本展ではこれまでより取材地を拡大し、地元の山形、北海道、富山を軸に描いた作品を発表いたします。合わせて、これまでに描いた沖縄や東京湾沿いの風景も登場します。
また、「夏の海は整備され、人も多く、どこか作り物、嘘っぽく感じ、自分はそれ以外の季節の手入れのされていない、そのままの生々しい海を描きたい」と、どのような風景の状況においても景色の美しさを追求して描いていきたいという思いから、描く場所の違いだけではなく、その時々で表情を変える季節や天候を表現することに挑戦し、雨や雪の風景も描きました。
その一瞬だけに成立する状況での風景です。運命的な風景との出会いが生まれることを願っております。

“I have continued to focus on how to express in my paintings the experiences I have felt with my five senses, such as the air, temperature, smells, and sounds I have felt on my skin when I went to various places for research.
In recent years, my major theme has been how to pack various sensations into a visual medium such as painting and complete it. It is difficult to turn each different experience I felt at a specific time in a real place into a work of art, but I think that this problem has been solved through repeated trial and error in our daily work.
Although I am still inexperienced, I would like to incorporate the rich experiences I have had on-site into my paintings. Please come and see this work, which could be considered the culmination of my recent works.” (Soichiro Ishikawa)
The artist is from Yamagata Prefecture. He has a strong impression of the “sea” that he has been familiar with since he was a child as a primal landscape, and continues to paint those landscapes. He creates his works by researching actual places, and he says that he often paints the coast of Japan Sea, which he has been familiar with since childhood. In this exhibition, he will expand the areas he has researched and present works centered on his hometown of Yamagata, Hokkaido, and Toyama. Additionally, previously painted scenes of Okinawa and Tokyo Bay will also appear.
Furthermore, “Summer seas are well-maintained, crowded with people and somehow seem artificial and fake, whereas I want to paint the untouched, raw seas of other seasons,” he said and with a desire to pursue and paint beauty in any landscape situation, he tried to depict not only the difference of locations, but also the seasons and weather, which change appearance from time to time, and painted rainy and snowy landscapes. These are landscapes in situations that come into existence only for that moment. We hope that this exhibition will lead you to an encounter with a fateful landscape.
