「境界」（きょうがい）とは各人をとりまく境遇・境涯、精神・感覚の働きによりもたらされる状態、境地の意です。
二人はともに水墨画の分野で研鑽に励みながらも、技法的な特徴、コンセプト、作風や表現方法は対極的です。
現代の日本で水墨画という伝統的な絵画様式を探求し、いまなお新たな表現を切り拓こうと切磋琢磨する気鋭の２名が「境界」（きょうがい）という両者の作品に通底する共通のテーマで作品を発表いたします。

山岸千穂
2015年、東京藝術大学大学院美術研究科デザイン専攻描画・装飾研究室を修了。
幼少の頃から筆に親しみ、書画の道で研鑽を積んだ現代水墨画家です。
卓越した運筆の技術から評論家や愛好家など各方面より“筆ネイティブ”とも評されていま
す。動植物や虫など花鳥画をはじめ日本の伝統的な画題をモチーフとしながらも現代的な
問いや感覚を作中に込め水墨画の新たな表現を目指し、日々、筆法の鍛錬に励んでいます。
繊細かつ強さを秘めた線描にこだわり、様々な生き物を通じて、先の見えない現代社会で
鑑賞者を静寂の内にも強く優しく鼓舞できるようにと作品を制作しています。
林銘君
中国中央民族大学美術学を卒業後、2023年多摩美術大学大学院絵画専攻（日本画）を修了
し、現在は東京藝術大学博士課程日本画専攻在籍中。
観念的な遠近感や奥行きと構成的な空間表現、水墨画特有の黒と白のシンプルで力強い表
現力が生み出す豊かな陰影や階調、深みなどにより、鑑賞者を自由な解釈のもと作品世界
に引き込みます。作中に登場するカタツムリや紙のカラスは、周囲との関係の中で、その
位置やあり方が変わって見える存在として描かれています。白と黒の間に生まれる繊細な
階調や、内と外が交わる曖昧な空間を通して、自己と他者、個と周囲の環境との間で変化
する境界を探っています。

The Japanese term “Kyōgai” (境界) refers to the circumstances and conditions surrounding each individual, as well as the state of being or realm of perception shaped by the workings of the mind and senses.
Although both artists have devoted themselves to the study and practice of Ink painting, a traditional art form, their technical approaches, concepts, artistic styles, and modes of expression are very contrasting.
In contemporary Japan, these two emerging female artists continue to explore the rich tradition of Ink painting while challenging one another to push the boundaries of artistic expression and discover new possibilities within the medium.
In this exhibition, they present their works under the shared theme of “Kyōgai”—a concept that resonates throughout both of their artistic practices.

Chiho Yamagishi
In 2015, she completed the Department of Design, Painting and Decorative Design Laboratory, Graduate
School of Fine Arts, Tokyo University of the Arts.
Chiho Yamagishi is a contemporary ink painter who has been familiar with the brush since childhood and has devoted herself to mastering the art of calligraphy and painting.
Renowned for her exceptional brushwork, she has been described as a “brush native” by art critics, collectors, and enthusiasts alike.
While drawing inspiration from traditional Japanese painting subjects such as flowers,
birds, animals, and insects, she incorporates contemporary questions and sensibilities into her works. In pursuit of new possibilities in ink painting, she continues to refine her brush techniques through daily practice.
With a particular emphasis on delicate yet powerful lines, She depicts various living
creatures in the hope that her works will quietly, yet strongly and gently, encourage viewers navigating the uncertainties of contemporary society.
Lin Mingjun
After graduating with a degree in Fine Arts from Minzu University of China, she completed the Japanese Painting, Department of Painting, Graduate School of Art and Design, Tama Art University in 2023 and currently enrolled in the doctoral program in Japanese Painting at Tokyo University of the Arts.
Through conceptual perspective and depth, structured spatial composition, and through the rich shading, tonal gradations, and depth created by the simple yet powerful black-and- white expressiveness those are unique to ink wash painting the draws viewers into its
world, inviting them to interpret it in their own way.
Elements such as the snails and paper crows that appear within the pieces are depicted in a way that suggests their position and nature shift depending on their relationship to their surroundings.
By exploring the delicate gradations between black and white, as well as the ambiguous spaces where the “inside” and “outside” converge, her works examine the fluid boundaries that exist between the self and the other, and between the individual and their surrounding environment.
